Review: Waifu Uncovered for Nintendo Switch!

Undress your targets, Save the Waifus!

Eight beautiful girls (waifus) are under threath of an alien attack. Their lives and the fate of mankind now rest in your hands.

In this basic yet very satisfying shoot’em up you can take command of multiple ship types, each made for a different play style, and blast away clothing that’s been infected by a deadly alien virus.

Fight and destroy alien enemies as they work against you and play in multiplayer or battle alone in all your bravery, save the waifu of your dreams and even unlock game modes like Arcade or one-finger mode.

Starting The Game

Once you start the game the only option you’ll have is starting “Normal Mode“. If you try to start any other mode a message will appear telling “you need to save more Waifus before being able to start this mode“.

When starting “Normal Mode” you can choose to play alone or with player 2, after that you can choose your ship. At the beginning you’ll have just one choice, but there’s plenty of choice once you start rescuing Waifus. There’s a ship for every gaming style, You’ll just have to try them out once you unlock them.

Rescuing Waifus

Every game synopses out there will tell you there are eight Waifus to rescue from the deadly alien virus. The only way to rescue them is by blasting your way trough every alien enemy in your path. After every enemy wave you destroy a piece of clothing. When playing “Censored Mode” the private parts of the Waifus are covered with an object that fits the theme of the level and also the appearance of the Waifu.

When playing “Uncensored Mode” the private parts of the Waifu are completely visible (nude), You’ll have the feeling your looking at Anime/Hentai pictures (just to give you an idea). I uploaded some uncensored gameplay videos to YouTube to refer to in this review but unfortunately the videos were deleted by YouTube because of policy violations, even while uploading the videos and marking them as 18+ only.

To avoid any negative reactions we decided we won’t share any uncensored images.

Gameplay & Controls

The controls are ratter simple, you shoot away with button “A”. Once you find a bomb item which could appear after destroying an enemy you launch your bomb with button “B”. Moving around is like in every other game with the analogs of your left side. There are no other options in normal or Arcade mode regarding controls. When in one-finger mode you can play using the Nintendo Switch’s touchscreen by using different tapping techniques and you can move around by swiping with your finger. While playing one-finger mode there are less enemies in every wave and the difficulty seems lower.

When you start a game mode you have the option to play offline or online to see score boards around the globe. Be sure to not lose your internet connection at home when playing online mode, the game will crash!

After choosing your ship you’ll enter the screen where you can choose between two Waifus you can rescue. One Waifu has no remarks but the second one always has the remark that this level/stage will be harder. Underestimating the difficulty of the game I chose the hard option, let me tell you it’s hard! And why? Well, let’s say it’s meant to be chosen after you rescue a few Waifus and had the chance to power up yourself while destroying enemy waves.

Choosing which Waifu to rescue, Left is normal and right is hard

During the beginning of a stage you’ll start in a mode where the screen is blurry and darker. After destroying a first wave of enemies the screen will get brighter and the real stage starts. The game is a real bullet-hell title and you’ll have to maneuver yourself trough large enemy waves while blasting them to oblivion. Some enemies drop items which could be either a power-up item or a Power-Down.

The Power-up item could be one of the following things. Rapid fire, Double or triple fire, extra bomb, Protective shield, Laser assist, Extra bullet power,  Multi shot or Ship level-up.

The Power-down could be anything that will power your ship down. You can recognize the Power-down by the color of the item, it’s always red. But because you have to evade so many enemies and bullets you’ll have to choose from picking the power down or evading it and get hit by enemy fire.

Every Waifu stage has a boss fight. The bosses are named after something 18+ related. Every Boss has it’s own fighting style and kind of weapons, the boss of every stage has it’s own minions which support him in attacking you.

Another boss fight before rescuing Waifu

After dying during a stage you’ll have to start over from the beginning. If you had the privilage to have rescued multiple Waifus before dying, you’ll be able to choose different ships or maybe even a different Game Mode like Arcade, or One-finger mode.

Video & Audio

The animation of the game gives a Hentai/Anime vibe, which as an Anime fan I loved a lot! The game is very fluent and i didn’t notice any frame rate drops or weird inconsistencies.

The audio gave me energy to get trough every level! The soundtracks are perfectly picked to match the type of enemy waves you have to destroy. The soundtracks match the theme of the scene and the clothing of the Waifu.

Behind the scenes

On the start screen you can visit the gallery, in here you can see the rescued Waifus in “Censored mode”, in this mode the private parts are censored in a creative way. In “Waifus” you can see the Waifus in all their glory!

For just $6,99 in the U.S. Nintendo E-shop you can buy yourself a fun shoot’em up with lots of Hentai nudity and lots of shoot’em up gaming styles. I would recommend this game to anyone who’s a bit pervy and is also a fan of hell shooting around and blasting enemies that come from every corner of the screen.
